The latest SVN allows disabling DVD-rom by adding <nodvdrom>true</nodvdrom> to the advancedsettings.xml file.
The newer versions of XBMC seems to check system info upon startup. And with my NEOGEO XBOX not having a DVD-rom inside, it hangs awhile. So feeling kinda frustrated, i got Visual Studio 2003 and XDK, and edited the source code to comment out the DVD checking portion and compiled my own XBMC.
